Tuesday, July 27, 2021, two people were killed, and dozens more severely injured during the chemical leak that released 100,000 pounds of acetic acid into the plant at LyondellBasell Industries in La Porte, Texas.
LyondellBasell is one of the largest plastics, chemicals, and refining companies in the world that runs shifts around the clock to ensure constant production of its chemicals, polymers, fuels, and technologies.
Two contract workers were killed in the LyondellBassell chemical leak, and 30 more employees were hospitalized with burn injuries and respiratory trouble, with many remaining in serious or critical condition.
The company insists the leak was quickly stopped and is believed to be contained on the site, however, testing will be done to confirm. The ongoing effects of the leak are still unknown, and all employees who were exposed to the chemical leak should seek medical care to ensure their safety.
